RouteToAmerica publishes information people use to make decisions with serious consequences — when to file, whether they qualify, what a deadline is. This page explains how we source that information and how to get something corrected.
Sourcing
We work from primary sources wherever they exist:
- USCIS and Department of Homeland Security announcements, policy alerts and the USCIS Policy Manual
- Federal Register notices, including TPS designations, terminations and registration periods
- Department of State visa bulletins and consular guidance
- Published court decisions and case documents
- Official forms, fee schedules and filing instructions
Every article links to the official source so readers can confirm the details and follow the agency’s own instructions rather than ours.
What we verify before publishing
- The effective date, and whether a rule is in force, delayed or enjoined
- Who the change applies to — categories, countries, filing dates, and continuous residence requirements
- The exact deadline or registration window, from the official notice
- Current fees, form editions and where the form is filed
- Whether litigation could change the outcome
How we handle uncertainty
Immigration policy is frequently contested. Rules are enjoined, restored on appeal, and applied differently by different service centers. When something is unsettled, we describe it as unsettled and name what would resolve it. We do not predict processing times or approval odds, and we do not tell readers they qualify — eligibility depends on individual facts we cannot see.
What we do not do
- We do not provide legal advice or represent anyone before an agency or court
- We do not file forms, check case status, or contact agencies on a reader’s behalf
- We do not charge for information, and we do not sell forms that are free from the government
- We do not publish eligibility claims we cannot trace to an official source
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and visibly. If something here is wrong — especially a deadline, an effective date, a fee or an eligibility requirement — tell us through our contact page. Substantive corrections are noted on the article, with an updated date.
Independence
Coverage decisions are made on the basis of what is useful to readers. Any commercial relationship that could reasonably affect coverage is disclosed on the page where it applies.
